Grilled carrots.

Grilled onions.

Avocado.

Corn OFF the cob. Not grilled.

(Try it raw. It’s sweet and crunchy and not too squishy and doesn’t leave corn “shells” in your teeth.)

LIME JUICE. Freshly squeezed.

–A poem*

*Shrimp and kale not included because they were not important enough.

Can you find the needle?

needle

Along with that little guy and a matching one on the other hand, today I had needles in my legs, feet, neck, and cheeks (the kind on my face).

I originally chose to do acupuncture treatments to fix a hip injury that I got after I ran a half-marathon last February. Through stretching and strengthening, it has gotten a lot better since then. I am still able to do other forms of cardio comfortably, but whenever I run, something feels off and I can’t do long distances without pain.

So far, I have noticed a difference. I see myself running again very, very soon! I was insanely jealous that Rebecca ran the Bolder Boulder yesterday (she is working on a race recap right now), so this is exciting for me.

lunch

I ate this before I left for my appointment and while skyping with a friend who is in Denmark right now. 10 days until I’ll be there, too! My plate had romaine lettuce with hummus, two carrots, and a chunk of tempeh topped with avocado and sea salt.

Another thing I really like about acupuncture so far is how it addresses different health concerns. So while every time I’m there I’m mostly there for my hip, other treatments are thrown in as well. Today it was my allergies, which I forgot I had until recently. Last time they got bad, I took Benadryl and passed out in front of Father of the Bride. I still haven’t seen that entire movie.

My meal held me over for about three hours, but then I got hungry again.

sushi

Whole Foods sushi, which I enjoyed with Celestial Seasonings Cold Brew. Tea that brews in cold water is a must for me during the summer because I never fill up the ice tray. Thus, the “brew it hot and pour it over ice” method is simply not an option, and probably never will be.

The grocery store was packed today. Maybe everyone realized that Memorial Day weekend came and went and now there’s no more barbecues to provide them with food?

I hope you all are handling the transition more gracefully than the guy in produce who was all-out sprinting with his cart toward the mushrooms. He needed portobellas and he needed them fast! I shouldn’t judge, though. I do the same thing when I see a Starbucks.
